Hestia

Hestia

Hestia, one of the goddesses of Ancient Greece, was initially the goddess of fire and eventually the protector of the home and family. Hestia was honored, by the family gathering in a specific place in the house, the “hestia”, today’s fireplace. Since the 4th millennium B.C and until recently, olive oil was used -and in some cases still is – as a lighting matter, whereas the use of olive logs is widespread as a fuel due to its slow-burning but very effective heating properties. The olive tree and all its products, even its kernel, have been largely used by man all these years, contributing effectively in the lighting and heating of temples, palaces and houses.
